Commentary on Matthew 6:24-35

Matthew 6:25-34 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you-you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that...

Adoption into the Family of God

Welcome to the family of God where all believers are referred affectionately by family titles. We are all seen as “children“ or “little children“.  John 1:12-13 states, “ But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”  Believers are referred to as “children of God” or “sons of God” over 30 times in the Bible between Genesis chapter 6 and 1 John chapter 5. So, we can clearly see evidence that scripture considers all Christians as God’s children. If we are “children of God” then we must also be “sons and daughters of God” which are synonymous. Galatians  3:26  states, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” If “sons and daughters of God”, then also heirs of the Father. These familial titles express a close and intimate vertical relationship. In being referr...

“what good thing must I do to get eternal life?' Matthew 19:16

A man asked Jesus, 'Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?' Matthew 19:16 (NIV) Why did the man ask this question, and what must we assume about him?  Obviously, the man understood enough of the law to know that the soul is eternal; however, he wrongly assumed that entry to heaven is based upon his personal efforts.  Many people share the misconceptions that either their good works earn them eternal salvation or that their good works will outweigh their evil deeds, thus qualifying them for salvation.  Ephesians 2:8 states that salvation is through faith alone.  Salvation is not through works.  John clearly states Jesus's own words regarding salvation in this statement, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.' John 14:6 (HCSB)   Sin's effects were well understood since Adam and Eve; however, the redeemer of God's people came in an unexpected way.  Many expected the Messiah as an e...

Answers to questions in the Book of Revelation (Bible & Life Questions)

Questions from participants in a group study on Agents of the Apocalypse on the Book of Revelation 12/12/2017 I was asked to serve as the answer guy for a group study of Dr. David Jeremiah, Agents of the Apocalypse study of the Book of Revelation.  I jumped at the opportunity as I feel this series is one of the best introductions to the characters of the book.  It brings clarity to a highly symbolic book in the Bible.   The participants also have a few life questions they wanted to be answered.  I have included those as well.  I hope you the reader can benefit from our Q&A session. A little background on Revelation... There are many interpretations of Revelation scripture.  Revelation is the most self-revealing book in the Bible.  If you continue to read on, you will likely find the answer in the next few pages.  It is filled with symbolism.  It is difficult to understand as John the Apo...
