Billy Graham, world-renowned pastor and evangelist, graduated to heaven at age 99.  Here is an interview I did from Trinity College of Florida with ABC Action News remembering his life and legacy.

Why did Jesus wait 4 days before raising Lazarus? (John 11:1-44)

We know Jesus waited 4 days to raise Lazarus.  But why so long?  Of course, we know raising Lazarus showed Jesus's deity glorifying Jesus and glorifying God.  We also know it was good for strengthening the faith of the disciples but here is one thing many might not know... Jewish mysticism of the day was that the soul stayed near the body for 2 days after death.  The Bible contradicts that belief; however, that was a commonly held belief at that time.  In the same way, today many believe incorrectly that being a good person alone will allow them into heaven. We know this is also incorrect and contradicts scripture (John 14:6).  So, we can see some of the commonly held beliefs even of religious people of each era often have nothing to do with scripture. Jesus may very well have raised Lazarus well past that 2-day time frame so that ALL would realize that he had power over death and believe in Him.

Pastor as the shepherd.  Do Pastors sometimes lose focus? "Preaching is fundamentally a part of the care of souls, and the care of souls involves a thorough understanding of the congregation." - Haddon Robinson, Biblical Preaching So preaching is not just delivering a motivational or entertaining speech, teaching a book, or administration of a church. It is the responsibility of the pastor to shepherd the flock. It is to intercede in the care for the people as ambassadors of God. Programs, church operations, etc should not be pr oduced for the primary purpose of creating event attendance, entertainment, and tithe. This type of ministry would encourage narcissistic self-indulgence, spiritual complacency, and institutional dependence. Instead, pastors should design meaningful ministry that nurses the wounded, heals the sick, strengthen the believer, builds the body, and reaches out with a message of hope through equipped disciples in Jesus Christ. Commentary on Deuteronomy 12:32

Deuteronomy 12:32 "See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it."   - Deuteronomy 12:32 There is so much in this verse... A warning against taking only what you "like" thus giving yourself higher moral authority than God. Self-declaration of right & wrong. A warning against syncretism (combining Christianity and other belief systems) as well as cults like Mormonism, Jehovah's Witness & false religions like Islam that all "add to" and "delete from" the Word of God to give the appearance of authority.
